Tracy is my cake idol. She owns and pretty single-handedly operates The Buttercream Studio, producing some of the most gorgeous and awe inspiring specialty cakes I've ever seen. Tracy came in during the first have of our term to do some basic cake decorating skills and princess cakes. She returned to show us the ropes on wedding cakes.
First, we dyed the fondant and covered the cake. It takes quite some time to knead in the color by hand, though the actual cake covering process is very quick. Tracy did the bottom layer, students the top two. Hers is so smooth!

We did bands, simple button closures, and dots using a graph paper template.
Next up: bows and flowers. I went into this thinking I strongly dislike bows, but turns out they aren't always as over-the-top cheesy as I thought.
For most demos, we make the cakes in class ahead of time. Tracy brought her own for this one, so we got to taste a few of her cakes and fillings!
